Casa Borges is locatedon the crest of a hill in eastern Caracas that is today surroundedby the slum community of Petare. Its transformation into acultural, recreational and educational center represents animportant opportunity to better respond to the community´s socialills which include violence among youth, elevated school dropoutrates and adolescent pregnancies.

The project embracessustainable architecture principles by incorporating recyclablematerials, urban agriculture and the reuse of rain wateraccumulated on the roof to irrigate vegetation and communalgardens. The project proposes a series of walkways that foregroundthe landscape and function as extended thresholds that allowsvisitors to enjoy a moment of transition between the exteriorcontext and the new cultural spaces in Casa Borges. Four accesspoints fiscally integrate the center with its surroundings.
