Box Wall2007
Exhibition Fabriano Gallery, Milan Italy

Box Wall hangs suspended in the air as a three dimensional textile of assembled boxes. Each individual unit is made of paper folded into cubes of roughly 5 x 6 x 4 cm. These are then sewn together to create a uniform grid that extends approximately 2 meters x 2 meters. The knitted network of voids and solids thus creates a flexible surface that gracefully takes shape as its weight naturally translates into slight bends and undulations. Despite the work's modular character, its overall texture has a great deal of visual variety. First of all, the piece is very porous with many openings created by missing boxes. Secondly, each box is folded so as to leave its flaps casually angled in, and these surfaces in turn catch light with different intensities, ranging from very bright when perpendicular to the light source to very dark, when hidden in shadow.
